Memorial Day
Coupeville and Burlington - May 27, 2024
See the Pictures!

Island Classic Mustang Club kicked off the parade season on May 27, 2024 in Coupeville, Washington. The weather cooperated for the most part.

We lined up on Terry Road at 10:00am. The decision was made to drop the tops on the convertible Mustangs, as the weather was sunny but breezy.

By the time we started moving down the parade route, we had 12 Mustangs and 1 "Volkstang." Members Liz Daniel and Sonya Williams were driving a white convertible Volkswagon Bug and getting many comments. One parade by-stander yelled "How did you get a Volkswagon in a Mustang Club?" Liz’s response was classic, "Sleep with the President!"

We made our way down Main Street, across Highway 20 to Front Street, all the while tossing candy to the children watching.

By the time we turned off Front Street, it started to drizzle then rain. Convertible owners had to pull to the side of the road and quickly put their tops up.

Special thanks goes to the Heinrichs and Carol Lee's brother Alan for coming to Woody Hershman's rescue after the Memorial Day Parade. Woody's beautifully-restored Tahoe Tourquoise '68 Fastback started to overheat after 3 blocks of the parade and he pulled off on a side street. Carol Lee saw him pull out and went around the block and picked him up and finished the parade.

When they went back to get the car, it wouldn't start. Woody, Ernie & Alan spent the next three hours in the rain trouble-shooting the mysterious lack of spark. Finally found that the tach wires were shorting out and keeping the power from reaching the coil. Disconnected the tach wires and it started right up. It was quite a frustrating day after waiting 8 long years and many many dollars to get it up and running.

Instead of having hotdogs at Town Park, many of us met up at Burger King in Oak Harbor for lunch before caravanning to a small car show at the Grand Opening of a new Napa store in Burlington, WA.

David Clem, Nick Kefgen, Ed McLaughlin, Dan & Jan Klopp, Stephanie Yates, Kevin Williams, and Jim Adams attended the Grand Opening, and everyone came home with a door prize.
