All-Ford Picnic Bellevue Community College, Bellevue, WA - June 4, 2024 See the Pictures!
Several club members attended the All Ford Picnic at Bellevue Community
College on Sunday, June 4. Dave and Liz and their two boys, Dan and Jan and
Stephanie Yates along with her daughter and son all met at the George Hopper
Road park and ride at 10:30 for the caravan to Bellevue. The little group
decided to "back road" it all the way south so they headed off down highway
9 for a few hours of twisties and slow speed cruising. The fact that Dave
learned to drive on the eastside of Lake Washington meant a traffic free
trip through Woodinville and Redmond arriving in Bellevue around 12:30.
Upon arriving, the first order of business was to eat, as all involved were
famished. The weather in Bellevue was inordinately warm with a temperature
well into the 80's. Our group found a pleasant grassy spot in the shade and
noshed on various picnic foods. It was at this time that Kevin Williams
showed up. Having missed the caravan at the park and ride, the Williams
family hit the freeway and handily beat the rest of the club to BCC.
After all had filled up on sandwiches, crackers and fruit, it was off to
view the cars. There was a plethora of Fords of all kinds: Mustangs
galore, Cougars, Fairlanes, Cobras, Tigers, a Pantera, Lightnings, street
rods, lowriders, classic cars from the thirties, forties and fifties, trucks
and even a Volvo with a 5.0 Mustang engine!! There were also several
non-Fords in attendance including many street rods, a Ferrari 308GTSi and an
incredible Dodge Powerwagon. All in all, it was a very nice show that even
had a live big band. The only regret was that our group did not arrive
earlier as the crowd had thinned considerably by the time we arrived.
Once the ice cream was finished, it was decided that the route home would
include a boat ride. Our troupe headed up I-405 to Mukilteo and a 15 minute
wait for the ferry to Clinton. After the heat of Bellevue, the cool breeze
on the ferry was very welcome. It was still warm enough to stand on the bow
of the boat but cool enough to feel good. Once back on the home turf of
Whidbey Island, the group reformed and caravanned up the rock to Oak Harbor.
A brief stop at City Beach Park and the trip was over.
A fine time was had by all involved and the trip was very fun. Next year,
we will leave much earlier, perhaps meet for breakfast. This should allow
us to see a lot more cars at the picnic.
